Preparing for Account Expiration

Physics computer accounts expire from 30 to 90 days after the individual leaves service or graduates. The following outlines what one can expect when leaving or graduating.

Forwarding

If you wish to maintain an e-mail forward after your account expires, you will need to do so with the university and not Physics. The university maintains an alumni e-mail forwarding system at: http://post.harvard.edu
Physics e-mail addresses cannot be maintained indefinitely. They will expire upon ones leaving and are tied to the expiration date on ones Harvard ID card.

Dates: What to expect

Accounts are allowed 90 days grace upon graduation, appointment expiration or leaving service with the university.
Example: Someone leaving on July 1st will see their account disabled 90 days later on October 1st. Account may be deleted at any time afterwards.
Note: Please be aware that your FAS account, if you have one, will expire faster. See this FASCS page for more info.

Special accounts provided by a sponsor will be disabled immediately once that individual has left Harvard.

Faculty, Staff and all other FAS affiliates: access ends 30 days after appointment ends. In some instances access may be disabled immediately, depending upon relevant circumstances.

Registering for a Post.Harvard forward
The Harvard Alumni Association offers permanent, lifetime email forwarding for alumni. It is a forwarding service that gives you a permanent email address, such as yourname@post.harvard.edu. Messages sent to your Post.Harvard address are forwarded directly to an email account you provide to the service. Please note: this email forwarding address is not an account, and it will not replace your current email Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your Harvard email account.

Graduating students may register for Post.Harvard forwarding addresses beginning on the following dates:

June College and GSAS degree recipients: May 1
November College and GSAS degree recipients: November 1
March College and GSAS degreee recipients: April 15

Copying files from your Physics account
While your account is still active, you may access it via SSH/SFTP and archive and retrieve any files you wish to keep.
